You’ve been told to study harder. But no one ever told you the truth: Studying harder doesn’t always mean studying smarter.
In fact, some of the advice you’ve been following — from teachers, friends, YouTube, or review courses — might be the reason you're still feeling lost, overwhelmed, and unsure.
And once you see it, you’ll never waste another hour studying the wrong way again.
Whenever a student comes to me after failing the NCLEX — or feeling like they’re about to — one of the first things I ask is:
“Where did you learn to study like that?”
And almost every time... I hear the same answers.
"My nursing school professor taught me that." "I saw it on YouTube." "A friend said that’s what worked for her."
But here’s the uncomfortable truth nobody likes to admit:
Most of that advice is outdated. Or flat-out wrong.
Lie #1: “Just Answer More Practice Questions”
This might be the most dangerous half-truth out there.
Yes — practice questions are important.
But only if you’re using them the right way. Only if you’re learning why you’re getting them wrong... Only if you’re spotting your patterns and adjusting.
If you’re just blasting through 100 questions a day hoping something "clicks"... You’re not getting better — you’re just getting burned out.
Lie #2: “You Need to Memorize Everything”
If you've ever thought, "I just need to cram a little more," you're not alone.
But the NCLEX doesn’t reward crammers.
The NCLEX is a thinking test — not a trivia game.
It’s not about how much you can store in your head. It’s about how quickly you can apply what matters.
When you try to memorize everything, you overload your brain. You freeze under pressure. You second-guess yourself.
And the worst part? You lose the ability to make smart clinical judgments — the real skill the NCLEX is testing.
Lie #3: “You’re Just Not Test-Smart”
This is the most harmful lie of all.
Maybe someone told you this. Or maybe, quietly, you started telling it to yourself.
"I’m just not good at tests..." "I guess I’m not a good test-taker..."
But here’s the truth: Feeling “bad at tests” usually isn’t a brain problem — it’s a strategy problem.
If your study method doesn’t match the way your brain processes information, everything feels harder. Every question feels trickier. Every test day feels heavier.
It's not about being “test-smart.” It’s about finally having a method that works with your brain — not against it.
So What Do You Do Instead?
First — recognize these lies for what they are: Distractions that keep you stuck.
You’re not broken. You’re not bad at tests. You don’t need to memorize everything.
You just need a system built around clarity instead of confusion.
Clarity that shows you exactly how the NCLEX thinks — so you can think like it too.
In the next post, I’ll show you the exact turning point that changed everything — not just for me, but for hundreds of students just like you.
It’s not about studying harder. It’s about studying differently.
And once you see it, you’ll finally start to believe: "I really can do this."
